Inter-Generational Engagement in Secondary Schools
Date: 28/06/2023
Students and elderly participated together in “Five Tastes in the Grocery Store”, a board game related to life and death. The two generations engaged in deep discussions about their values towards life and death during the game, promoting intergenerational communication. Moreover, students were able to experience the physical challenges faced by the elderly through simulated activities. For instance, students were asked to fill out a form while wearing specially designed blindfolds, allowing them to experience the inconvenience that the elderly with visual impairments encounter in their daily lives.
During the sharing session at school, participants, including the elderly, university students, and our Form 4 students, shared their experiences and insights they gained from the activity with the entire Form 4 students. The sharing session served to promote the concept of social caring and enhance their peers’ understanding of the importance of intergenerational harmony.
